WHO WE ARE
OUR ORGANIZATIONThe Junior State of America (JSA) is the largest student run debate organization in the United States. Established in 1934 at the Montezuma School in California (pictured above), JSA now boasts over 11,000 members in over 500 high schools across America.
CONVENTIONSThe center of the JSA experience is the three major overnight conventions each year in the Mid-Atlantic State, including a mock Congress simulation in Washington DC. These conventions feature debates in domestic and foreign policy as well as high caliber keynote speakers ranging from Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to Senator Rick Santorum.
CHAPTERSHowever, the JSA experience extends beyond conventions. JSA chapters host weekly meetings which bring engaging discussions on topics ranging from infrastructure to the Iran Deal to classrooms around the country. This allows students to engage with their peers on political issues and foster stronger relationships with fellow students through advocating for their own opinions and listening to the opinions of others.
ACTIVISMJSA also coordinates a plethora of activism initiatives to help students turn their debate ideas into political action. JSA's initiatives are run at the chapter level and range from voter registration drives to fundraising efforts to support developing nations to combating political apathy.
