step 1 : contact JSA• If you are not already in contact with a JSA official, reach out to national JSA headquarters (Washington DC office) so we can help you start a chapter
• If you are already in contact with a JSA official, be sure to keep them informed of your chapter's activities |
Step 2: RECRUIT CHAPTER MEMBERS• Once you are aware of the great opportunities JSA has to offer, spread the word to your friends
• JSA will provide you with promotional materials and give you tips on how to gain chapter members |
STEP 3: GET ADMINISTRATIVE APPROVAL• Once you have backing from several students within your school, meet with your administration about what JSA has to offer
• Emphasize that it's different Model UN and Debate, JSA is a national student run organization focused on leadership and civic growth • If you aren't granted a teacher adviser with your approval, look for history and government teachers as their subject matter aligns with JSA. |
Step 4: BEGIN CHAPTER ACTIVITIES• Get a small officer board together and decide who will be President, Vice President, Secretary etc. to assist in managing the club. (Note: the creator of the chapter is usually the chapter President)
• Spread the word on your first meeting and host a debate on a prominent policy issue. • Make sure all of your members pay their $5 tax to JSA headquarters to be officially part of JSA |
